Greetings from Provost Gwendolyn Mahon
As UNE’s provost, my priorities center on academic excellence and student success. Students are at the heart of all we do — promoting their success in the classroom, in the lab, on campus, through innovative experiential learning opportunities, and, ultimately, throughout their future as they leave Â鶹´«Ã½and become alumni. I regard the Â鶹´«Ã½experience as nothing short of transformational; students graduate as changed individuals, prepared for and excited about the next phase of their lives. For me, the position of provost is all about supporting students as they undergo this transformation, and providing a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment in which to do so.
Priority Areas
Â鶹´«Ã½
A fully accredited institution, UNE's academics prepare students to thrive in a rapidly changing world with a focus on improving the health of people and our planet. Â鶹´«Ã½is home to six different colleges, providing academic degrees that run the spectrum from the liberal arts to highly specialized professional offerings. Our many Centers deliver innovative co-curricular programming and experiential learning opportunities that challenge students to tackle real-world problems. The result is an uncommonly rich and exciting educational experience.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Providing a warm, welcoming, and inclusive campus community has been an enduring tenet of Â鶹´«Ã½from its earliest days. From our historical roots grounded in providing educational opportunities to marginalized populations to the high percentage of first-generation college students among our community, you could say DEI is in our DNA. Our Global Education Program offerings — from short-term travel courses to full semester abroad experiences at our beautiful campus in Tangier, Morocco — immerse students in rich cultural discovery leading to newfound personal and geographic connections.
Research
Â鶹´«Ã½is a private institution with an impressive research and scholarship profile relative to its size. As the university with the most NIH funding in the state of Maine and an R2 classification, Â鶹´«Ã½provides abundant opportunities for students to engage in research experiences. These opportunities extend to undergraduate and graduate students alike.
Student Success
From our academic and career advisory services that use a personalized, holistic advising approach; to our Internship Office that connects students with vital, hands-on experiences; to specialized advising for members of our pre-health, undeclared, and transfer student bodies, Â鶹´«Ã½has a wealth of services to ensure our students achieve their personal and educational goals and are well-poised for their future.
