Stephen Burt's work on display at the L.C. Bates Museum

Art work by Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Creative and Fine Arts Stephen Burt will be on display at the L.C. Bates Museum in Hinckley, Maine through Oct 15, 2012.

The exhibition, titled "Humanity in Nature," asked a group of artists to draw inspiration from the museum with its extensive collections of plant, taxidermy, and animal artifacts to create artworks that reference both the environment and humanity in some way.

Artists were also asked to write a statement about the subject of Humanity in Nature. Burt wrote, "I want to portray my experience of a place, its landscape, flora and fauna, and the forces inherent in it."

The Humanity in Nature exhibition is funded in part by an grant from the Maine Humanities Council and Maine Arts Commission. Visitors are invited to meet some of the artists on Sunday June 24th from 2-4 p.m. at museum.
