Dr. Helen Rozwadowski

HELEN M. ROZWADOWSKI, Ph.D., is a
professor of History and the founder of the
University of Connecticut’s Maritime Studies
program. She has spent her career encouraging
scholars and students to explore the history of
interconnections between oceans and people.
She co-edits the University of Chicago Press
book series, Oceans in Depth. Her latest book,
Vast Expanses: A History of the Oceans (2018),
has been translated into Chinese and Korean.
Her book Fathoming the Ocean (2005) won the
History of Science Society’s Davis Prize.
She also authored The Sea Knows No
Boundaries and co-edited three volumes on
oceanography history. She participates in the
University of Oslo’s Maritime Modernities
project and has held fellowships at the Rachel
Carson Center in Munich and the Scripps
Institution of Oceanography.
